Family Weekend!
What I thought would be an easy, one-birthday-weekend... turned into two birthdays, one bowling night (with kids in tow), friends over for swimming and dinner, dinner for Nama Dotty and Uncle Frank, hand-watered landscaping, pulled out dead plants, entire laundry load for a family of four, two grocery trips, shopped for shorts for Ryan and got some Bible study done!
These are some pics of Ryan and Samuel's first bowling experience. I tried to be a good wife and tell rod that I'd just stay home with Samuel. If you know Samuel, you know his unbelievable attraction, dedication, addiction to balls! "good morning, Samuel," for which he replies "BALL". You can imagine a child as such, at a bowling alley. (no ownership of the balls, strangers, pinched fingers, allies to run down, brother gets to hold a ball.....) So, the fear poured through me as I envisioned rod and I tackling Samuel and not bowling. And, that's just about how it went down! I was whipped! A client of Rod's celebrated their 5-year anniversary and had a big, family bowl night. I really did enjoy getting to bowl, with some leg to the side action.

First bowl for Ryan, DQ'd. Over the line! The ball rolled so slowly, it started rolling back to us.

Here's the monster. I'm still scared.

So, we went to a birthday party for our friend's niece. So I thought "it" was a niece. Nope, Sage is a boy. I had run through Target on the way to the birthday party (side note: all Rod's planning) and picked out a Kaboodle and filled it with hair ties, bows, lip gloss, hair brush... I was having fun. As we walked toward the party a little train goes by, and THEN a dreaded Thomas the Train balloon made my neurons click in. I flipped out, threw the gift at Rod and shouted, "Sage is a girl. Throw this back in the car." I was mortified. But, not near as mortified as I was when I started overhearing Rod tell THE MOM what happened. Ugh. Really!?!?

This party was the cutesy it was an early morning party(because it gets sooo hot so fast) so they had a pancake station and all the fixings in beach pales and wagons with shovels to use to scoop up the goods. Then, a lady walked around and handed out mini Baskin Robbins ice cream cones. Off in the distance, I oversee Samuel in his white shirt and a chocolate ice cream.

Sunday night, we had Nama Dotty and Uncle Frank over for spaghetti dinner. The boys put on a full (loud) show for them. Excellent dinner and company to end our busy weekend.

Can You See Me???
I had a quick trip up to Chicago for work and was DETERMINED to see this mirrored bean. I just needed to see it and touch it. I don't even know the name of it. Just needed to say I've seen it. Can you see me?!?!

I was very impressed. Just needs some Windex.
Chicago is a fun city. Got to see some of my Texas peeps for lunch and dinner. Got a little "localness" and touristi-ness. It was a perfect one night trip!

Ten on Tuesday
1. Today, Ryan told me "When I join a soccer team, I'm going to play basketball." Maybe he'll make the B team?? I'm just happy to hear that my pint-sized nugget hasn't mentioned football.
2. Rod and I have decided that since we travel well together, we best make a trip to Italy. "Everybody gotta have a dream." - Pretty Woman
3. Still loving my Bible study. I could easily cycle it through again, with the same gals, again and again. Fill me up!!
4. The flavor of the moment in TV - The Smurfs, Tom and Jerry, Scooby Doo and our beloved (let's mom get dinner on the table) Despicable Me.
5. If I could move all the grandparents, Nama Dotty, Auntie Jenny, Aunt TT to California, I'd move my family out there in a heartbeat.
6. So, Bikram Yoga makes me cranky because I hate being so hot. My insides get agitated with it. Well, I am hating (yes using a strong word) this heat. I cranky and mad at it. Not much to do to fix that except maybe follow through with the plan in #5.
7. Ryan's orientation for his Pre-K program is Thursday night!!! I got so excited for him (me).
8. I've got three canvas photos coming in the mail soon!!! Cannot wait to get my entire collection hung up in the kids' play room!!!
9. Date night for Rod and I on Friday night!!! (hence the need for the grandparents to make the move to CA as well).
10. Samuel and Ryan are playing together more and more. Our house is getting louder and louder with laughs, screams, tattling, singing... Love it.
Julie, get a blog! ;).

Great Outdoors!!!
I could not stop thinking how great the community is in El Segundo. There is so much to do outside, and all of which are either free or may cost you a buck or two. Oh, and do I dare tell you the temperature?!?!? The high I think was 80 one day. Oh, and a constant breeze.
These are some pics from this park that also has a good sized pool that is all shallow!!! A kids dream. It's awesome. Then, when you're finished swimming, you run over to the play area. Check out the "cool thing to do" with your towel on the play set.

Tuesday morning, we headed to get lattes and bagels. Then, over to the farmer's market to ride the trackless train... For which Ryan told me "it's just a car". True that, Son. true that.

Now here's where I had a nostalgic moment. Maybe eight years ago, I flew out to see Stacy and just get away from Dallas and reflect. Every morning, I'd walk down the Strand and then out on the pier and just park it on a bench. I was reading Purpose Driven Life at that time. So, when I was running out on the pier with the kids, I just had to stop and reflect again. It was a pretty sweet moment for me.

They kept trying to tell the surfers to catch "that one" (wave). They wouldn't listen so we got no action.

Soupie is just the sweetest.

Malyn is just the funniest. Like her momma. She has some pretty comical moments that stop you in your tracks. I remember Stacy being that way. Still is and still full of life. (yes, even with three kids).

Gotchya Malyn. Bribery did play into this! But, I got it and that's all that matters.

I wanted one of me. And I got it. THAT'S all that matters.

Thank you Arnolds for all the fun!!!!!!

1:00am. We made it home.

California on Our Minds
Such a fun trip!!!! We packed in (just about every minute) all my favorite CA things to do in five days!!! We shlepped those kids around town to the point I think we were able to get everyone in (or out) in less than two minutes. Ryan is now a buckler/unbuckler. Thank you Mattie Sue and Malyn!!!

Saturday, we hit Manhattan Beach as an activity for Solace for the Children.

Eli was a great "monnnnnnnster" for Ryan. He loves Eli.

I love Eli.

After two hours of being on the beach, of which has sand, did Ryan start enjoying the sand. Intimately.

Love me some Ryan and Manhattan Beach.

Concert in the Driveway. Pull up your lawn chairs, and enjoy!! Genre: ???

Ryan got his toes painted too! I was so impressed he kept his feet on the board to dry.

Day 1: We're Here!!!
It's cousin time!!!! The kids are in full Cousin-mode.
Ryan is an excellent travel partner and takes his role as passenger very seriously! I'm being truthful when I say there is zero prompting for this picture. If you don't know Ryan, he studies everything very closely.

Nearing the end of the flight we were in this mood. I had stickers on my forehead and one cheek when we deplaned.

I could not wait to get my paws on this one!!!

We went to the Marina del Rey area to hit up an amazing park. Stacy and I parked ourselves in the grass with a yummy salad and let the kids run free.

The ice cream man showed up at the park. Smart guy. So, you know... Ice cream treats are no longer .50. We're now talking a 1.50 for a Ninja Turtle ice-cream with the gum balls for eyes.

Think they are related???

Stacy read a book (Ryan's choice since he's the guest)at 8:00pm. Went back in at 8:30, 8:45, 9:45... And Malyn and Ryan have all the zuzu pet stuff out. Mind you, it's 11:45 San Antonio time. Tired boy today.

Stacy telling the rules of slumber parties (no freezing underwear, no putting shaving cream on a sleeping face... You know).

Beach Trip and Manhattan Pier ice cream stroll coming next!
